THEY CAME FROM THE BOOTH: Book Launch and Exhibition
THEY CAME FROM THE BOOTH is a book showing over 200 found Photo-Me booth photographs collected and curated by graphic designer/author Sue Smallwood.
The photos were found during the early 1980s, with the main set coming from a single booth in London's Kings Cross station in the late 1980s. Fascinated by the minutiae of these stolen glimpses into other people’s lives, Sue carefully placed the portraits together, deciding either visually or contextually how they best worked alongside each other. The juxtaposition of the pairings resulted in combinations both poignant and amusing.
The collection became the inspiration for a song called ‘Photo-Me’ by indie pop band The Trudy, of which Sue was an original member.
The book is A4 in size, and is 104 pages. The first edition of books is limited to 150 copies, price £20. Each book in this edition comes in a hand-screen printed bag, with a bookmark and a CD of the previously unreleased song 'Photo Me’ by The Trudy.
There was a book launch and exhibition on the 11th November 2023 at NoHAWKERS GALLERY
